World Bank Apps For Development Challenge Unveiled

Want to change the world? Now there may be an app for that, too. The World Bank and a New York City startup called ChallengePost announced the first round of their open innovation challenge, which calls for the development of news apps that use free access to World Bank data to help solve thorny problems in the developing world. More than 100 apps were submitted from around the world, some are already live and having an impact. The public now gets to vote on the best app. There is $45,000 in prize money at stake. Apps will also be singled out for recognition by a panel of judges that includes the chief economist at the World Bank, Craigslist founder Craig Newmark and Ushahidi cofounder Ory Okolloh.
