One To Watch: Exit Through The Gift Shop

Date: Thu, 29. December 2011 08:11:26
Continuing with my reviews of great documentaries related to art, design and advertising, this one is a treat. Originally started as a project about Banksy, but one that turns into a joyous film about the guy doing all the filming, Exit Through The Gift Shop is something that you just cant watch without a smile on your face. Great stuff. One To Watch: Exit Through The Gift Shop originally appeared on About.com Advertising on Wednesday, December 14th, 2011 at 18:22:52.Permalink | Comment | Email this

Are You Thinking Like Columbo?

Date: Wed, 4. January 2012 08:12:39
Image via Zoliblog I make no secret of this...I love Columbo. It's probably one of my top ten TV shows of all time. I watched every episode as a young boy, I watched them all again in college, and I am still watching them now. What I always loved about Columbo, played so well by the late Peter Falk, was how you could see his thinking. He literally took you step by step through his thought process, and he solved the cases in the most ingenious ways. Now, maybe I draw so many parallels between Columbo and copywriting or art direction because I'm in the business, but I think there are many. And now, I have written a guide to thinking like Columbo, one of my idols. Enjoy, and let me know if I missed anything. Are You Thinking Like Columbo? originally appeared on About.com Advertising on Thursday, December 22nd, 2011 at 09:25:05.Permalink | Comment | Email this

Evil Genius!

Date: Mon, 15. August 2011 08:12:02
Screengrab via Noob It's not often that I'm fooled by an ad. Having been in the business for as long as I have, and knowing the kinds of twists advertisers like to throw at consumers, I'm usually quick to spot the narrative. This one...it floored me. And I love it!Evil Genius! originally appeared on About.com Advertising on Saturday, July 9th, 2011 at 13:42:09.Permalink | Comment | Email this

Do As a Challenger Brand Would Do.

Date: Tue, 7. February 2012 08:17:36
A recent article I wrote on three great challenger brands should tell you everything you need to know about the "David and Goliath" strategy. If you're a small brand, you have less money and less media muscle. BUT, you are nimble, you can take bigger risks and once you have engaged the competition, they start spending their money to advertise your name. It's always a win-win. The Train, The Train!

Date: Mon, 18. July 2011 08:12:49
Screen grab via You Tube Mark this one as both unexpected and really cool. And it wasn't done by a big agency, it's a piece of self-promo. As we all know, those seem to be the hardest to do. Nice work from Black Moon Studios, you definitely got my attention. The Train, The Train! originally appeared on About.com Advertising on Friday, June 24th, 2011 at 13:23:25.Permalink | Comment | Email this

Biting the Hand That Feeds: Burger King's Adman Calls for Ban on Marketing to Kids

Date: Sat, 26. June 2010 07:11:08
By Jim Edwards Kudos to Alex Bogusky for firmly grasping the third rail of advertising: The fact that companies should not be advertising to children under the age of 8 because kids that age don't understand that advertising isn't "real." Bogusky, whose red-hot agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky handles Burger King 's account, wrote a surprisingly ...
